Cabinet approves extension for Syrian workers and tax settlement measures

Amman: In a session presided over by Prime Minister Bishr Khasawneh on Sunday, the Cabinet ratified a series of decisions, including the extension of a previous ruling concerning the status of irregular Syrian workers in the Kingdom. The extension, spanning one year for Syrian workers in factories benefiting from the relaxed rules of origin agreement with the European Union, and six months for those in non-Jordanian permitted professions, aims to address labor conditions effectively. This decision is set for evaluation post the expiration of the aforementioned periods. Additionally, the Cabinet agreed to implement the recommendations of a committee designated to resolve pending issues with the Income and Sales Tax Department, facilitating the settlement of tax situations for 324 taxpayers, comprising both individuals and companies. The Cabinet also endorsed the recommendations of a committee to reconcile outstanding claims between taxpayers and/or violators and the Customs Department. This agreement will s ettle 16 cases, contingent upon the commitment of the involved parties to pay the full due amounts, including any fees, taxes, or expenses, within two months from the decision's issuance. Furthermore, the Cabinet approved the rationale behind the draft bylaw for establishing the Qatrana Sharia Court of First Instance for the year 2024. This move, driven by urban expansion and population growth, is aimed at facilitating convenient and easy access to judicial services for citizens, while clearly defining the jurisdiction of the courts' operations. Lastly, the Cabinet sanctioned the reasons for amending the bylaw of blood transfusion services and its derivatives for the year 2024.
