Berlin: The Bundestag's longest-serving member, Gregor Gysi of the Left Party, declared that the Palestinian people have the right to a homeland and a state. Gysi made this statement during his opening speech before the Bundestag, emphasizing the continued deprivation of the Palestinian people's homeland despite the adoption of United Nations resolutions.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Gysi asserted that the solution to this ongoing issue lies in the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state that upholds the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people. He further stressed the role of Germany in helping to realize this solution.
Gysi criticized the Israeli government and the majority of the Knesset for their refusal to acknowledge this right and for their reliance on force and military options. He highlighted Germany's historical responsibility to resolve the plight of the Palestinian people by supporting the creation of an independent Palestinian state.
