The hague: The International Court of Justice (ICJ) announced that Brazil has joined the case filed by South Africa accusing Israel of committing genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the court stated that Brazil submitted its request to join the proceedings on September 17, citing Article 63 of the Statute of the Court. This development has been welcomed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, which applauded Brazil's formal decision to participate in the lawsuit initiated by South Africa. The lawsuit addresses alleged crimes of genocide against the Palestinian population in the Gaza Strip. The Ministry hailed Brazil's move as a demonstration of its commitment to international law and support for justice and Palestinian rights. It emphasized that Brazil's involvement is a significant contribution to global efforts to end impunity and hold Israel accountable for its actions. The Ministry's statement further urged nations worl dwide to emulate Brazil and South Africa by taking on their legal and moral duties to protect Palestinians and halt genocidal actions against them. It also called for broader participation in the lawsuit to reinforce international law and bolster efforts to achieve justice and halt Israeli violations. The case, originally filed by South Africa on December 29, 2023, accuses Israel of engaging in acts of genocide in the Gaza Strip. The lawsuit has garnered support from numerous countries, marking a historic moment in the context of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. South Africa's extensive 84-page submission to the court details evidence of Israel's actions leading to the killing of thousands of Palestinians and creating conditions conducive to their physical destruction, thus constituting genocide. On January 26, the ICJ mandated Israel to implement all necessary measures to prevent actions prohibited under the Genocide Convention and to ensure the immediate provision of urgent humanitarian aid in the Gaza S trip.
