Al-Balqa Applied University has commenced a significant water harvesting initiative at the Princess Tasneem Bint Ghazi for Technology Research Station, with a project budget of pound 300,000 funded by the Inter-Islamic Network on Water Resources Development and Management (INWRDAM). Amal Abbadi, Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Technology, announced that the INWRDAM will construct three dams to capture rainwater, develop 400 meters of terraces, cultivate 500 dunums of valerian, plant 10,000 trees, and build 10 stone barriers. The dams are anticipated to be operational and capable of water collection by November of this year. Abbadi emphasized that the project aims to enhance environmental conservation by creating water retention structures, safeguarding soil quality, preventing erosion through natural terracing, and implementing nature-based solutions to advance agricultural and environmental work at the station. She also noted that, in response to the environmental challenges faced by the Princess Tasn eem bint Ghazi Technology Research Station, including water scarcity, soil degradation, and diminished natural vegetation, the College of Agricultural Technology has engaged in multiple consultations with the INWRDAM. These included field visits to the station to assess agricultural sector issues and develop effective solutions. Abbadi expressed gratitude to the Islamic Network, particularly its Executive Director, Marwan Al-Raqqad, for their ongoing support and collaborative efforts to address environmental challenges. She also highlighted that a memorandum of understanding will be signed with the network to further the goals of improving the agricultural and water sectors in Jordan. Source:Jordan News Agency
