A statement by the Ministry of Interior stated: "The detachments of the First Energy Police Brigade in Kirkuk and Nineveh governorates arrested two accused of smuggling petroleum products and seized their two vehicles prepared for smuggling." He added: "They were detained and the two vehicles were seized, to complete the investigations in accordance with Law No. (41) of (2008) on combating the smuggling of oil and its derivatives.
