Arab Parliamentary Union Demands Global Accountability for Gaza Crisis

Algiers: The Arab Parliamentary Union (APU) has made a call for a unified Arab action to hold the international community accountable for the ongoing genocide in the Gaza Strip. This appeal was made during the opening session of the 38th conference of the Union in Algeria.

According to Union of OIC News Agencies, the rotating president of the APU, Ibrahim Boughali, who is also the Speaker of the Algerian National People’s Assembly, emphasized the need for a unified and effective response from Arab parliaments. He urged these bodies to hold the international community accountable for its legal and moral obligations and to break the silence surrounding the events in Gaza.

Boughali remarked that the situation in Gaza represents not only a humanitarian crisis but also a challenge to the global conscience. He criticized international institutions for their inaction, suggesting that they are either passive observers or complicit in the crisis. He highlighted the extermination of the Palestinian people as a glaring example of double standards in international dealings.

Furthermore, Boughali expressed the Arab Parliamentary Union’s opposition to any attempts to undermine the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). He condemned efforts to question the agency’s neutrality or reduce its financial resources, viewing these as moves to weaken the refugee issue and obstruct a just resolution to the Palestinian cause. He reaffirmed the Union’s commitment to a two-state solution, emphasizing the need for an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital to achieve peace in the region.
