Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit Saturday welcomed Armenia's recognition of the State of Palestine as "a courageous decision that indicates this friendly country stands on the right side of history." Jamal Rushdi, official spokesman of the League's Secretary-General, said expansion in the recognition of Palestinian statehood among the international community is a further evidence of a growing conviction that it is impossible for the occupation to continue, and there's a need to achieve the two-state solution. "The recognition represents an important step towards the creation of a Palestinian state on the borders of June 4, 1967," he said. The Arab League chief called on all countries that have not yet recognized a Palestinian state to "take this morally sound, and legally and politically correct" decision as a real contribution towards realizing the two-state solution, achieving peace and ending the occupation, according to Rushdie.
