Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani reviewed with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres all files of constructive cooperation between Iraq and the United Nations and issues of joint work. A statement by his media office stated that Al-Sudani met, yesterday evening, Thursday (Baghdad time), in New York, with Guterres, at the conclusion of his participation in the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly. According to the statement, the meeting witnessed a review of all the files of constructive cooperation between Iraq and the United Nations, and issues of joint work, as well as discussing developments in the Middle East region and the continued aggression on Lebanon and Palestine, and what it poses as a major threat to regional and international security and stability. According to the statement, Al-Sudani expressed his appreciation for the principled positions expressed by the Secretary-General of the United Nations regarding the issue of aggression on Gaza, and condemning the crimes agains t humanity committed against the Palestinian people, as well as the attacks practiced on Lebanon, describing these positions as respecting the foundations on which the international organization was built, renewing Iraq's thanks for the cooperation and support that the United Nations agencies have been keen to provide in order to consolidate stability in Iraq, support the Iraqis in confronting ISIS, and enhance the victory achieved thanks to the cohesion of the Iraqi people, and the assistance of friends and the international community. The Prime Minister extended an invitation to the Secretary-General of the international organization to visit Iraq and participate in the work of the Arab Summit that will be hosted by Baghdad in May 2025. For his part, Guterres praised the relations between Iraq and the United Nations, describing them as ideal and excellent relations, and that the United Nations is interested in consolidating prosperity and progress, and achieving sustainable development for the Iraqi peopl e. Guterres also expressed his gratitude for the constructive joint discussions that led to the termination of the work of the (UNAMI) mission in Iraq, and opening up prospects for cooperation in several fields with the relevant UN agencies, the most important of which is supporting Iraq in facing the challenges of climate change, and the rest of the economic challenges and social and service development programs in which Iraq has made significant progress.
