New york: Minister Riyad Mansour, the Permanent Observer of the State of Palestine to the United Nations, has delivered a stern message to the UN Security Council, asserting that Israel's actions have long demonstrated its objective to dismantle the Palestinian population through forced displacement and violence to facilitate the annexation of Palestinian territories.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Mansour addressed the Emergency UN Security Council Meeting on the Situation in the Middle East, including the Palestine Question. He emphasized that "Israel is killing Palestine in Gaza," where over 2 million people are suffering unbearable hardships, urging immediate international action to halt what he described as genocide.
Mansour criticized Israel's recent decision to reoccupy Gaza, arguing it exemplifies a lack of concern for hostages' welfare and further cements Israel's military control rather than focusing on ending Hamas rule or ensuring security. He called for a transformation of international condemnations into actionable measures to affect change.
During his address, Mansour referenced an international plan developed by the International High-Level Conference on Palestine, co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France. The plan seeks to cease hostilities in Gaza through a ceasefire, release hostages, provide humanitarian aid, and facilitate Israel's withdrawal, ultimately supporting the establishment of an independent Palestinian State.
Mansour asserted that Israel's goals are not aligned with security or disarming Hamas but rather with hindering Palestinian statehood. He criticized Israel for dehumanizing Palestinians and for actions he described as genocidal, calling on the global community to mobilize resources to counter these actions.
He urged the Security Council to act decisively under Chapter VII of the UN Charter to prevent Israel from continuing what he described as a "war of atrocities" and to hold it accountable for its actions. Mansour conveyed Palestine's readiness to collaborate with international partners to end the conflict and achieve a lasting peace.
Mansour's address highlighted the urgency of international intervention to protect the Palestinian people and stressed the importance of swift action to secure a peaceful future for the region.
