World Snooker Championship Kicks Off in Riyadh

The 2023 World Snooker Championship for men and women kicked off in Riyadh on Saturday. The championship’s competitions will continue until July 17, with the participation of 15 teams. 32 players will compete in the U17 category, while 60 players will take part in the men’s U21 category and 18 players in the women’s U21 category. Qatar University Library Launches New Project Highlighting Cultural, Economic Heritage in Qatar

Qatar University (QU) Library has launched a new project titled: “Qatar through the Eyes of Her Majesty” which aims to showcase a cultural and historical heritage in Qatar, as well as offer a unique overview of vibrant past, future and present for the country. The project is based on compilation of volumes that comprise a collection of sources and newspapers which have been gathered into twenty-seven volumes. In a statement on Sunday, QU outlined that the library is steadfastly seeking to organize, save and compile historical documents to be further offered to beneficiaries with emphasis on observing intellectual property rights, pointing out that the project comes within the framework of preserving cultural and historical events and pass them through generations. Head of User Services at QU’s library Fatima Al Naemi stated that the project enriches the library’s holdings and facilitates researchers’ access to historical information through the library’s index. Assistant Information Services Specialist at QU’s library Asmaa Nasir said the project is based on revealing important article titles found in newspaper volumes and old sources related to Qatar’s social, economic, cultural, and industrial conditions. In addition, the project highlights progress in press during a vital era in in Qatar’s modern history spanning from the 1950s to the early 1980s. It also includes a collection of articles and investigative journalism pieces that cover Qatar’s educational, healthcare, urban, and sports advancements, as well as the initiation of modern projects following the discovery of oil, which has led to an ongoing economic development until this day. Turkish Vice-President Visits Museum of Islamic Art

Within the framework of his visit to the State of Qatar, HE Vice-President of the Republic of Turkiye Cevdet Yilmaz and the accompanying delegation visited the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) on Sunday. His Excellency, accompanied by Deputy Director for Museum Affairs at MIA Sheikha Al Nassr, toured the museums various sections and wings, and was briefed on its holdings of Islamic antiquities, artifacts and rare treasures of heritage, including books, manuscripts and coins in addition to articles of glass, ivory, textiles, wood, gems, and historic artifacts dating back fourteen centuries, collected from three continents. HE Vice-President of the Republic of Turkey received an explanation of the establishment of the Museum of Islamic Art, and its role in spreading science, culture and arts, to conclude the visit with inking His Excellency’s signature in the museum’s golden record. Qatar Amateur Radio Society Participates in IARU HF World Championship

The Qatar Amateur Radio Society (QARS) participated in the 2023 International Amateur Radio Union (IARU) HF World Championship. Secretary-General of QARS Sabaan Mismar Mubarak Al Jassim stated that the society has been participating in the competition annually as an IARU society member. The society’s aim in participating in the competition is to highlight Qatar’s name on a global scale as one of the most supportive countries for radio amateurs in the region, work to motivate the members to participate internationally and achieve advanced positions globally, continentally, and locally, the society stated. The championship awards a certificate of high registration rank in each category in every ITU region, DXCC country, and ARRL division, a certificate of participation for each IARU station and each station belonging to the Board of Directors and the Regional Executive Committee, and issues Achievement Level Awards to those who score at least 250 QSOS or a multiple of 75 or more. Additional prizes and awards may be awarded at the discretion of IARU members in each country. QARS aims to develop Radio as a hobby among citizens and regulate its practice under local and international laws, establish human and international relations between amateurs in the State of Qatar and their colleagues abroad, which introduces Qatar and its renaissance, and enables it to participate in the preparation of technical cadres that perform Humanitarian services in emergencies, relief for ships and aircraft, and others.
