Vice President Al-Sheikh Engages with French Presidential Advisor on Palestinian Statehood

Ramallah: Vice President and Vice Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), Hussein al-Sheikh, and the Advisor to the French President for Middle East and North Africa Affairs, Anne-Claire Legendre, discussed and shared today political visions for ending the war of genocide against the Palestinian people and recognizing the Palestinian state. During a meeting in Ramallah, al-Sheikh conveyed the greetings of President Mahmoud Abbas to French President Emmanuel Macron.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, al-Sheikh reiterated the Palestinian leadership's priorities, primarily achieving a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and delivering urgent relief to citizens. He emphasized the necessity of halting the occupation's escalating measures in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem. Furthermore, he highlighted the importance of the State of Palestine assuming full responsibility in Gaza, advocating for the full withdrawal of occupation forces and the implementation of the two-state solution based on international legitimacy. This approach aims to establish an independent and sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The Vice President also commended the French and Saudi efforts to organize an international conference on the two-state solution in New York on the 17th of this month. He called for practical actions concerning France's and other participating countries' recognition of the State of Palestine, stating that such recognition would safeguard the two-state solution. Moreover, he underscored the need to develop a peace plan to resolve the conflict and provide economic and financial support for building state institutions and supporting development and reconstruction projects.

The discussions also included some bilateral issues, with an emphasis on the historic partnership between the State of Palestine and France in peacemaking. Al-Sheikh expressed appreciation for the valued support provided by France to the Palestinian cause. Additionally, he addressed the reform process of state institutions, reiterating a commitment to international legitimacy and international law.
