Ramallah: Hussein Al-Sheikh, Vice President of the State of Palestine and Secretary General of the PLO Executive Committee, engaged in discussions with a delegation from the European Union Border Assistance Mission (EUBAM) to address international efforts related to the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, during the meeting held in Ramallah, Vice President Al-Sheikh emphasized the importance of reinforcing international initiatives to ensure the urgent, secure, and regular delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. The region has been experiencing severe challenges since October 7, 2023, due to ongoing conflict, which has resulted in significant casualties, including the deaths of 57,575 Palestinians, predominantly women and children, and injuries to 136,879 others.
Vice President Al-Sheikh provided the delegation with an update on the critical situation regarding the entry of aid into the Strip, highlighting the severe famine and worsening humanitarian conditions. The EUBAM delegation included Nataliya Apostolova, head of the EUBAM Mission, Stefano Tomat, Civilian Operations Commander, and Alexandre Stutzmann, EU Representative to Palestine, along with other diplomats. Ayman Qandil, head of the General Authority for Civil Affairs, and Nazmi Mhanna, General Director of the General Administration of Borders and Crossings, were also in attendance.
Al-Sheikh expressed appreciation for EUBAM's significant contributions, notably in training and enhancing the professional skills of staff at border crossings, as well as their efforts in facilitating aid entry into the Gaza Strip.
