Iran: Iran's army reported Sunday that a US attack on the Iranian warship IRIS Dena resulted in the death of 104 crew members and injuries to 32 others.
According to Anadolu Agency, the state news agency IRNA detailed that the assault occurred on March 4, when the IRIS Dena was targeted by the US Navy while returning from the Milan Peace 2026 naval drills in India. The attack took place in waters off Sri Lanka.
Washington acknowledged that an American submarine was responsible for the torpedo attack on the Iranian vessel. In response to the incident, Sri Lanka coordinated a joint rescue operation after receiving a distress signal from the ship near Galle city. The 32 injured crew members were quickly transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
This attack is part of ongoing hostilities, as the US and Israel have been conducting extensive airstrikes on Iran since February 28. These airstrikes have resulted in over 1,200 fatalities, including Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, and more than 10,000 injuries, as reported by Iranian authorities.
In retaliation, Tehran launched missile and drone attacks targeting Israel, Iraq, Jordan, and Gulf nations housing US military forces.
