UNRWA’s Curriculum Changes Spark Concerns Among Refugee Committees

Gaza: The Executive Office of the Popular Committees for Refugees has raised alarms over recent actions by the UNRWA Education Department, which has begun to replace the fifth-grade Arabic textbook. This replacement involves the removal of sections relating to the Palestinian people’s political struggle.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency – WAFA, the Executive Office for Refugees condemned this move as a deliberate attempt to erase the national identity and historical legacy forged through the sacrifices of the Palestinian people. The statement highlighted the ongoing efforts to amend the curriculum, as directed by the UNRWA administration, which has conducted numerous workshops, notably the Dead Sea Conference. The outcomes of this conference have emphasized gradually altering the educational content provided in UNRWA schools.

The Executive Office warned of significant threats to the refugee issue, suggesting that these curriculum changes are part of broader initiatives aimed at dismantling refugee camps and displacing Palestinians. In response, the office urged popular committees within refugee camps to closely monitor the educational process and engage in activities opposing the decision.
