Gaza: The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has raised alarms over a severe shortage of medicines and medical supplies in the Gaza Strip, stating that the situation poses a grave threat to the lives of patients. This warning comes amid ongoing challenges faced by the healthcare system in Gaza, which has been under severe strain since the onset of Israeli military actions.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, UNRWA highlighted that the healthcare infrastructure in Gaza is in crisis, exacerbated by the Israeli blockade and ongoing aggression. The agency has called for an immediate cessation of hostilities and the lifting of the blockade to facilitate the delivery of essential medical supplies and support to the beleaguered region.
In alignment with these concerns, M©decins Sans Fronti¨res (MSF) reported on the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, describing it as a "mass grave" due to the widespread destruction and displacement. MSF's emergency coordinator in Gaza, Amande Bazerolle, emphasized the critical challenges faced by aid workers and the local population, noting the severe insecurity and shortages of essential supplies.
Claire Magone, MSF's general director, criticized the actions of Israeli forces, pointing to the dangers faced by humanitarian and medical workers in conflict zones. She further condemned the international community's silence and support for Israel as contributing factors to the ongoing crisis.
As Israeli military operations intensify across Gaza, MSF has urged Israeli authorities to immediately end the blockade and ensure the protection of Palestinian civilians and humanitarian personnel. The organization also called for the urgent restoration of a ceasefire to halt the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe in the region.
