Jenin: Director of UNRWA Affairs for the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, Roland Friedrich, has reported that more than ten months into Israel's operation 'Iron Wall', destruction in the region remains persistent. The camps in Jenin, Tulkarm, and Nur Shams have been completely evacuated by Israeli security forces, leaving approximately 32,000 residents forcibly displaced.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Friedrich highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by displaced individuals. In a post on X, Friedrich noted that despite the desolation of these once-thriving camps, Israeli security forces continue to issue demolition orders under the guise of 'military purposes'. Recently, a demolition order was announced for 12 buildings in Jenin Camp, with an additional 11 buildings scheduled for partial demolition. These actions are set to commence on 28 November, marking another chapter in the alteration of the refugee camps' landscape in the northern West Bank.
Friedrich emphasized that this systematic destruction contravenes fundamental international law principles and further entrenches the control of Israeli security forces over the camps. He advocated for the reconstruction of the camps and the return of their residents, stressing that they should not remain in a state of perpetual displacement.
