UNRWA Chief Warns Gaza Remains in a Man-Made Hunger Crisis

Gaza: The head of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees warned on Friday that Gaza remains in a man-made hunger crisis.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Philippe Lazzarini, UNRWA Commissioner-General, emphasized that a new report by the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) has highlighted the fragile nature of recent improvements. Lazzarini noted that while Gaza Governorate is no longer officially classified as being in famine, a significant 1.6 million people are still experiencing high levels of acute food insecurity.

Lazzarini expressed that the situation can only be resolved by allowing supplies to enter Gaza on a large scale and enabling humanitarian workers to perform their duties effectively. He revealed that UNRWA currently has food parcels ready for 1.1 million people and flour for the entire population, all awaiting entry into the Gaza Strip.
