UNRWA Chief: Hunger Becomes Latest Killer in Gaza

Gaza: UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini declared on Tuesday that hunger has emerged as the latest killer in Gaza, emphasizing the urgent need for unhindered, safe, and dignified assistance. According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Lazzarini highlighted that five months into the ongoing crisis, there have been attempts to replace the UN-coordinated response with four Israeli militarized distribution points. This has resulted in hunger becoming a significant threat to the population in Gaza. Lazzarini shared these concerns on his X account, expressing the dire circumstances. Before the current situation escalated into famine, community-based distribution centers, supported by partners, were providing food and assistance to two million people across the Gaza Strip. Lazzarini underscored the critical role these centers played in addressing the needs of the population. Lazzarini's call to action urged for the UN and its partners to be allowed to perform their roles without hindranc e, ensuring that aid reaches those in dire need. His statements reflect the urgency and gravity of the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza.
