UNRWA Chief Criticizes Israeli Aid Plan for Gaza as Unworkable

Gaza: Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), has criticized a proposed Israeli aid delivery plan for Gaza, stating it is unworkable and incompatible with basic humanitarian principles.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Lazzarini expressed his concerns in a statement published on UNRWA's official Facebook page. He emphasized the difficulties of adhering to the proposed aid model while maintaining fundamental humanitarian principles. Lazzarini remarked, "It is not possible for a humanitarian organization, which truly respects the basic humanitarian principles, to adhere to such a scheme."

He further indicated his skepticism about the plan's effectiveness, suggesting that the model appears more aligned with military objectives than addressing genuine humanitarian needs. "I do not think that such a model will succeed," Lazzarini stated, highlighting his belief that the plan may not prioritize the real concerns of the people in Gaza.

The criticism comes amid warnings from various humanitarian agencies about the worsening crisis in Gaza. Nearly two million people are at risk of severe hunger and famine, underscoring the urgent need for immediate action, as emphasized by the World Food Programme.
