UNGA 80th Session Progresses with Remote Address by President Abbas

New york: The United Nations General Assembly continued its 80th session in New York for the third day, focusing on the theme 'Better Together: 80 Years and More for Peace, Development and Human Rights.'

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, President Mahmoud Abbas is scheduled to address the Assembly via video conference on behalf of the State of Palestine. This remote participation follows a resolution adopted by the UN General Assembly on September 19, which was supported by 145 countries, allowing President Abbas to contribute pre-recorded statements to the high-level meeting.

The resolution was enacted due to the United States' refusal to grant visas to Palestinian representatives, a decision that included the cancellation of previously issued visas, thereby preventing their attendance at the UN meetings in person. This decision prompted the Assembly to express its regret over the circumstances.

The general debate of the 80th session is set to continue until Saturday, September 27, with the session concluding on Monday, September 29, 2025.
