UN Special Representative Calls for Immediate Action to Alleviate Suffering of Gaza’s Children

New York: The UN Secretary-General's Special Representative for children and armed conflict, Virginia Gamba, has emphasized that the international community must not remain passive in the face of the ongoing suffering of children, particularly in Gaza. The region continues to experience unprecedented levels of destruction and hardship, violating basic human rights principles.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Special Representative Virginia Gamba presented the Secretary-General's annual report on children in armed conflict before the UN Security Council. In her address, Gamba highlighted the urgent need for action, stating, "There is no justification for depriving children of access to the means for their survival, including access to food, healthcare, and security."

Gamba urged Israel, the occupying power, to ensure the swift and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need in the Gaza Strip. The report, which examines 25 country situations, identifies Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territory, especially the Gaza Strip, as areas with significant violations in 2024, alongside the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Somalia, Nigeria, and Haiti.
