UN Rights Chief Criticizes Global Inaction in Gaza Crisis

Geneva: UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Trk has condemned the international community for its inaction in the ongoing crisis in Gaza, asserting that it has failed the Palestinian people. He reiterated that Israel is legally bound to adhere to the International Court of Justice's directives, which include halting acts of genocide, punishing those who promote such acts, and ensuring the delivery of sufficient humanitarian aid to Gaza.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Trk made these remarks during the opening of the 60th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva. He highlighted the severe impact of Israeli actions in Gaza, noting the mass killing of Palestinian civilians, the obstruction of life-saving aid, widespread starvation, and the targeting of journalists, all of which he described as shocking the global conscience.

Trk also expressed his alarm at what he termed the 'public use of genocidal rhetoric' by senior Israeli officials. He emphasized the dire situation in Gaza, describing it as a graveyard resulting from Israeli military actions and stressing the need for peace in the region.

He warned that continued militarization, occupation, annexation, and repression would only lead to further violence and terrorism. Trk criticized the international community for not taking decisive actions to prevent genocide and questioned the lack of measures to stop the flow of weapons that could violate war laws to Israel.

Trk called for urgent pressure to be applied to achieve a ceasefire, secure the release of prisoners and those arbitrarily detained, and ensure the provision of adequate humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza.
