Gaza: Ramiz Alakbarov, Deputy Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process and UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, emphasized that Gaza remains engulfed in profound uncertainty and immense human suffering. According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Alakbarov briefed the 15-member UN Security Council, providing updates on the implementation of resolution 2334, which pertains to settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem. His briefing also covered the implementation of resolution 2803 (2025), which endorses the United States-facilitated Comprehensive Peace Plan in Gaza and authorizes the deployment of an international stabilization force. "The legitimate needs, concerns, and aspirations of the people of Gaza must be addressed through the full implementation of that resolution," Alakbarov stated. However, he noted that the situations in both Gaza and the West Bank have remained volatile. Alakbarov highlighted ongoing Israeli air strike s and military operations across Gaza, resulting in additional fatalities and bringing the death toll since the ceasefire to over 1,000, as reported by the Gaza Health Ministry. He expressed concern over the expansion of Israeli territorial control, now encompassing approximately 70% of the Strip, which he said is reducing space for civilians and concentrating Palestinians in limited areas amid insecurity and violence. Despite the ceasefire announced eight months ago, the region continues to face uncertainty and suffering. Alakbarov condemned the ongoing violence, particularly the killing and injuring of civilians, including women and children, and expressed alarm over recent calls for renewed hostilities in Gaza. In the West Bank, Alakbarov reported a deterioration in the situation, citing Israeli military activity in Jenin and the displacement of Palestinians. He raised concerns about escalating violence and criticized officials for glorifying violence and engaging in provocative rhetoric. Alakbarov also condemned Israel's plan to establish military facilities at the Sheikh Jarrah compound of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in East Jerusalem, urging Israel to rescind the decision.
