UN General Assembly Continues 80th Session Meetings; Canada’s FM Reaffirms Support for Palestinians

New york: The United Nations General Assembly resumed its sixth day of general debates of its 80th session on Monday at UN headquarters in New York, wrapping up discussions that began last Tuesday under the theme: "Better Together: 80 Years and Beyond for Peace, Development, and Human Rights."

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand affirmed her country's support for the Palestinians during the debate. She emphasized the urgent need to establish humanitarian corridors in Gaza to ensure aid delivery to civilians. Anand highlighted that the two-state solution is threatened by settlement expansion and noted that Canada's recent recognition of the State of Palestine is a clear reflection of Ottawa's policy supporting the Palestinian right to self-determination, aiming for a future where Palestinians and Israelis coexist peacefully and securely.

Anand also reiterated Canada's backing for regional efforts to secure a ceasefire and its commitment to international endeavors aimed at ending the ongoing conflict. She emphasized Canada's dedication to enhancing the capabilities of the Palestinian Authority in collaboration with regional partners.
