New york: Two UN special rapporteurs have issued strong condemnation of the global community's apparent indifference to the violent acts perpetrated by Israel against Palestinian women and girls during the ongoing conflict in Gaza. According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Reem Alsalem, the UN Special Rapporteur on violence against women and girls, expressed deep concern over the lack of international response to the massacres and severe hardships faced by Palestinian women. Speaking at a UN panel in New York, Alsalem emphasized that the atrocities committed against Palestinian women and girls highlight a significant global neglect. She pointed out that the intensity of violence in Gaza exceeds what current legal and conceptual frameworks can address, underscoring the inadequacy of existing terms and conventions to fully capture the extent of the suffering endured by Palestinians. Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories, echoed these sentiments, criticizing the United Nations for its inefficacy and moral shortcomings in addressing the crisis in Gaza. Albanese stated that the dire situation illustrates the international community's failure to uphold the UN Charter's promises. She highlighted the institution's struggle to maintain peace and stability, calling attention to the need for accountability among UN member states that have supplied arms to Israel amid its continued offensive in Gaza.
