New York: A United Nations committee has issued a grave warning concerning the potential for another "Nakba," akin to the displacement of Palestinians in 1948, as a result of the "unimaginable suffering" inflicted by Israeli practices.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the Special Committee to Investigate Israeli Practices Affecting the Human Rights of the Palestinian People and Other Arabs of the Occupied Territories released a statement highlighting Israel's ongoing actions. The committee emphasized that these actions contribute to the severe suffering of those living under occupation and accelerate land acquisition as part of broader colonial objectives.
The statement further elaborated, "What we are witnessing could be another Nakba." The Special Committee, formed by the UN in 1968, includes ambassadors from Sri Lanka, Malaysia, and Senegal. These members expressed their concerns, stating that the current events could lead to a second Nakba and that Israel's government prioritizes colonial expansion.
The committee accused Israel of using security operations as a guise for rapid land seizures, mass displacement, demolitions, forced evictions, and ethnic cleansing, aiming to replace Palestinian communities with Jewish settlers. The statement underscores the urgent need for international attention to prevent further escalation and potential humanitarian crisis in the region.
