Gaza: British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper has called for increasing humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, describing it as a crucial step towards achieving a genuine path to peace in the region. According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Cooper said, "British aid, including food and shelter supplies, is ready in warehouses awaiting permission to enter Gaza," stressing that "the people of Gaza cannot wait." She emphasized the urgent need to open more crossings and lift restrictions on aid entry to enable the United Nations and NGOs to scale up their life-saving humanitarian efforts, within the framework of the US-led peace plan. During her visit to Jordan, the Foreign Secretary inspected a warehouse storing British aid ready for entry into the Gaza Strip, emphasizing the pivotal role Jordan plays as a key hub for coordinating and distributing humanitarian aid in the region. Cooper noted the three-week ceasefire has allowed for the entry of more aid into Gaza, but restrictions continue to block significant amounts of essential supplies. She said the scale of humanitarian needs remains significant and requires a substantial increase in support. "In addition to food aid, there is an urgent need for shelter and emergency medical care, especially for pregnant women," she stated. "We have no time to waste in providing aid and making real progress towards lasting peace." The minister affirmed her country's commitment to working with Jordan, regional partners, and the international community to support Gaza's reconstruction efforts and achieve lasting peace in the Middle East.
