Two Children Die Due to Starvation and Malnutrition in Gaza

Gaza: Two children died on Friday due to starvation and malnutrition in the Gaza Strip, according to medical sources. They said that the deaths occurred in the war-battered Strip within the last 24 hours, raising the total number of fatalities from Israel's policy of forced starvation on Palestinians to 457, which includes 152 children.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, since famine was officially declared in Gaza for the first time by the Integrated Food Phase Classification (IPC), the UN-backed global hunger monitor, on August 22, 2025, 179 people, including 37 children, have died of outright starvation. The IPC stated that after 22 months of relentless conflict, over half a million people in the Gaza Strip are facing catastrophic conditions, characterized by starvation, destitution, and death.

The report further highlights that another 1.07 million people, or 54 percent of the population, are in an emergency situation (IPC Phase 4), and 396,000 people, or 20 percent, are in a crisis (IPC Phase 3). It also warns that famine is expected to expand to the areas of Deir al-Balah in central Gaza and Khan Younis to the south by the end of September, based on current projections. This expansion would increase the number of people experiencing famine in Gaza to 641,000. Within the same timeframe, it is projected that the number of people in the "emergency" phase four category would rise from 1.07 million to 1.14 million.
