Megiddo: Three Palestinian detainees in the Israeli Megiddo prison are suffering from serious health conditions as a result of deliberate medical neglect by the Israeli Prison Service, in addition to starvation, deprivation of water, insults, daily searches, and the lack of personal hygiene supplies. The Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs reported this alarming situation today.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the commission has documented several severe medical cases through its lawyer who visited the detainees. Abdullah Mahmoud Mezher, a 25-year-old from Balata refugee camp in Nablus, has been under administrative detention since September 25, 2025. He has been enduring nearly two years of suffering due to shrapnel injuries to his left eye, previously managed with daily medical eye drops that are no longer provided, resulting in constant burning pain. Additionally, Mezher suffers from an old injury to his right hand, which contains a metal plate causing severe pain. Despite his need for surgery, prison authorities have refused to provide painkillers, a situation exacerbated by the continuous use of iron shackles and repeated repression.
Another detainee, Mohammad Sobhi Hamadneh, 42, from Nablus, has been detained since August 1, 2024. He contracted a virus similar to an amoeba infection last February, leading to severe diarrhea, inability to breathe or stand, weight loss to 37 kilograms, and dangerously low blood pressure, causing him to lose consciousness. After being transferred to Emek Hospital, he remained there for 29 days before being discharged against medical advice following an assault by a nurse.
Yaqub Mahmoud Qadri, 53, from Bir al-Basha in Jenin, has been suffering from thyroid problems for three years and requires surgery. He also suffers from herniated discs in his back and neck, conditions he has endured for more than twenty years, along with severe dental pain requiring treatment. Qadri has been detained since October 18, 2003, and was among six detainees who briefly escaped from Gilboa prison on September 6, 2021.
