Thousands Demonstrate Across Latin America Protesting Israel’s Actions in Gaza

So Paulo: Thousands of demonstrators took to the streets in Brazil, Chile, and Mexico to protest Israel's ongoing genocidal war on the Gaza Strip.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Brazilians gathered in downtown So Paulo, the country's largest city, urging President Luiz In¡cio Lula da Silva to sever diplomatic relations with Israel. The demonstrators waved Palestinian flags and displayed images depicting Israeli attacks in Gaza. The protest garnered support from numerous civil society organizations and several members of parliament.

In Santiago, the capital city of Chile, demonstrators echoed similar sentiments, calling on Israel to halt its attacks on Gaza. They demanded that President Gabriel Boric cut diplomatic ties with Tel Aviv. Meanwhile, in Mexico City, pro-Palestine activists rallied, demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

The Gaza Strip has been experiencing a catastrophic humanitarian crisis since the occupation closed all crossings on March 2, effectively blocking the entry of food, medicine, aid, and fuel. The escalation of the occupation forces' campaign has intensified the suffering of the people in the Strip.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been accused of committing genocide in Gaza, involving acts of killing, starvation, destruction, and displacement, while disregarding international appeals and orders from the International Court of Justice to cease these actions. The conflict has resulted in approximately 184,000 dead and wounded, most of whom are children and women, with over 11,000 missing. The crisis has also led to the displacement of hundreds of thousands, with famine claiming the lives of many, including children, amidst widespread destruction.
