Spain to Investigate Companies Promoting Settlement Products

Madrid: The Spanish government announced on Tuesday that it will launch investigations into companies promoting products or services in Spain originating from Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories. The decree adopted last week prohibits the promotion of these goods and services in Spain, aiming to prevent companies from profiting from the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the Ministry of Consumer Affairs stated that the decree is part of a broader package of measures, including an arms embargo on Israel, to halt the genocide in Gaza. Consumer Affairs Minister Pablo Bustenduy emphasized that his office would utilize "all necessary resources" to ensure no company operating in Spain benefits from the occupation.

The Ministry's statement highlighted Minister Bustenduy's previous remarks at an event in July, where he asserted that "no company's budget should be stained with the blood of the Palestinian people." This move aligns with Spain's commitment to supporting Palestinian rights and addressing the implications of the occupation.

On Friday, the United Nations updated its database of companies with activities in Israeli settlements in the Palestinian territories, listing 158 companies from 11 countries. This list provides a basis for Spain's investigations into companies promoting settlement products.
