Spain Investigates Israeli Firms Over Alleged Colonial Tourism Promotions

Madrid: Spain's Ministry of Social Rights, Consumer Affairs and the 2030 Agenda has announced an official investigation into Israeli companies suspected of promoting travel packages to the occupied Palestinian Territory during the International Tourism Fair (FITUR) held in Madrid from January 21 to 25.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the investigation aims to determine whether companies in the Israeli pavilion at the fair were involved in organizing or promoting tourist trips to the illegally occupied Palestinian Territory. The ministry's statement emphasized the importance of verifying these activities, as they would be in violation of Spanish law.

The legal framework in question is Article Four of the Royal Decree, approved by the Spanish government in September 2025. This decree includes urgent measures to address the situation in the Gaza Strip and support the Palestinian people. It explicitly bans advertising of goods and services originating from the occupied Palestinian Territory. The ministry highlighted that there are suspicions of Israeli companies violating this provision, prompting the need for a thorough investigation.
