Spain Ends Ambassador’s Mandate in Israel Amid Diplomatic Disputes

Madrid: The Spanish government has officially concluded the mandate of its ambassador in Israel, following her recall to Madrid in September 2025 due to the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip. This decision was formalized through a royal decree, which was published in the official state gazette on Wednesday.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the decree was signed by King Felipe VI on Tuesday. It was based on a proposal from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and officially ended the tenure of Ms. Ana Maria Salomon Perez as Spain's ambassador to Israel. The decree also expressed appreciation for her services. The recall of the ambassador was initiated after Spain's diplomatic relations with Israel became strained, primarily due to Spain's implementation of measures aimed at addressing the crisis in Gaza.

If Spain decides to appoint a new ambassador to Israel, the process will involve selecting a suitable diplomat and having them present their credentials to the Israeli authorities. Meanwhile, diplomatic relations between the two countries remain tense, as Israel has not appointed an ambassador to Spain since the Spanish government, led by Prime Minister Pedro S¡nchez, recognized the State of Palestine in 2024.
