Ljubljana: Slovenian Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon stated on Tuesday that Israel is deliberately attempting to dismantle United Nations institutions. Fajon made these remarks during an interview with Slovenian Radio and Television, where she also expressed her early support for an arms embargo on Israel. She emphasized that Slovenia is currently exploring legal avenues to block the importation of products originating from Palestinian territories occupied by Israel.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency – WAFA, Fajon highlighted that Israel’s actions are particularly targeted at the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). She noted that the recent decision by the Israeli Knesset to ban UNRWA activities in the occupied Palestinian territories has drawn condemnation from countries and organizations across the region, Europe, and the Western world.
Fajon further described the situation in the Gaza Strip as genocidal, marking it as the “darkest” place with significant l
oss of life since World War II. She maintained that Slovenia’s consistent stance on the issue has garnered respect, reiterating the country’s condemnation of Israeli attacks on Lebanon.
The Foreign Minister stressed that securing a ceasefire should be a global priority. She expressed hope for optimism, stating, “Peace should be the main word. If the conflicts expand, we will have big problems.”
