Post: Regional Escalation Will Have ‘Serious Repercussions’ for International Security, Peace: Qatari Emir

Doha: Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani expressed concerns over the escalating situation in the region, warning that it could have 'serious repercussions' for international security and peace during a conversation with US President Donald Trump. This was reported by the Qatar News Agency late Saturday.

According to Anadolu Agency, the discussion between the two leaders focused on regional developments amidst ongoing Iranian attacks targeting Qatar and other regional states. The emir emphasized that the escalation poses 'dangerous consequences' for international security and peace, highlighting the need to contain the crisis and strengthen diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict.

The emir asserted Qatar's commitment to taking all necessary measures to protect its sovereignty, security, and national interests in line with the UN Charter and international law. Both leaders agreed on the importance of collaborative efforts to maintain regional and international stability and support political solutions to de-escalate tensions and prevent further escalation in the region.

Iran initiated missile and drone attacks on February 28, targeting Israel and Gulf countries hosting US military assets. Some of these strikes have resulted in casualties and damage to civilian sites, including ports and residential buildings. Tehran claims the attacks are a response to a US-Israeli military campaign against Iran, which has resulted in the deaths of hundreds, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and senior military figures.
