Post: Ramallah: Israeli occupation forces on Wednesday evening held Ramallah Governor Laila Ghannam at the Atara military checkpoint, north of the occupied West Bank city of Ramallah, the Ramallah Governorate said in a statement. It was reported that the forces briefly detained Ghannam at the checkpoint and inspected her vehicle before releasing her.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the detention of Governor Ghannam was criticized by the Ramallah Governorate as part of a broader Israeli policy aimed at undermining the Palestinian people. The statement emphasized that such actions are part of systematic efforts by the Israeli occupation authorities to assault and break the will of the Palestinian community.

The presence of Israeli forces in the West Bank is marked by frequent raids on Palestinian homes. These operations are conducted under the pretext of searching for "wanted" individuals, often resulting in clashes with local residents. The raids occur without the need for search warrants and can take place in areas fully controlled by the Palestinian Authority, highlighting the extensive arbitrary powers of the Israeli military.

Under current Israeli military law, army commanders hold comprehensive executive, legislative, and judicial authority over the approximately 3 million Palestinians residing in the West Bank. Palestinians have no influence over the exercise of this authority, which further exacerbates tensions in the region.
