New york: The State of Qatar has emphasized that recognizing the Nakba is crucial for any equitable, comprehensive, and lasting resolution to the Palestinian issue. This statement was delivered by Qatar's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani, during the UN Committee meeting on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People. The meeting marked the 78th anniversary of the Nakba at the UN headquarters in New York, as reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to Palestine news and Information Agency, Al Thani reiterated Qatar's condemnation of Israeli policies in the occupied Palestinian territories, highlighting illegal decisions regarding the West Bank, the reclassification of Palestinian land as "Israeli state land," and the acceleration of settlement activities. She also denounced Israel's enactment of a law authorizing the death penalty in the occupied West Bank and restrictions on religious freedoms for both Muslims and Christians in occupied Jerusalem.
Addressing the situation in the Gaza Strip, the Qatari representative underscored the importance of implementing the ceasefire agreement fully and opening crossings to ensure the continuous and unobstructed delivery of humanitarian aid into the Strip. She reaffirmed Qatar's steadfast support for the Palestinian cause and the resilience of the Palestinian people, rooted in international law and the two-state solution.
