Ramallah: Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa met with the General Union of Palestinian Industries, led by Nassar Nassar, to discuss strategies for enhancing the industrial sector's role in the national economy. The meeting, held at the Prime Minister's office, also included a video conference link with federation representatives in the Gaza Strip. Minister of Industry Arafat Asfour and Minister of National Economy Mohammad Al-Amour were also present.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Prime Minister Mustafa reiterated the government's commitment to boosting Palestinian industries. Key focus areas include increasing domestic production, enhancing competitiveness, reducing import dependency, and creating job opportunities. The delegation highlighted significant challenges facing the sector, such as restrictions imposed by Israeli authorities and complications at border crossings, notably impacting Gaza.
Discussions also covered ongoing legal efforts to pressure Israel into opening crossings for exports to Jordan and addressing obstacles to goods movement between the West Bank and Gaza Strip. A proposal by the General Union of Palestinian Industries to establish a national industrial company in Gaza was also considered. This initiative aims to boost local production of construction materials, recycle rubble, and manufacture prefabricated housing units.
The meeting explored government measures to support the industrial sector, including laws and legislation. Topics included the mandatory use of national products in government tenders, combating the dumping of low-quality goods, and new legislative efforts like the draft Consumer Protection Law and amended Investment Law. Efforts to expand international recognition of Palestinian quality certifications and strengthen export capabilities were also discussed.
