Brussels: President of the European Council, Ant³nio Costa, strongly urged the Israeli government to reconsider its decision to take over Gaza City, stating: 'Such a decision must have consequences for EU-Israel relations, to be assessed by the Council.'
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Costa emphasized that such an operation, combined with the continued illegal expansion of settlements in the West Bank, the extensive destruction in Gaza, the blockade of humanitarian aid, and the spread of famine, not only violates the agreement with the EU announced by the High Representative on July 19 but also undermines fundamental principles of international law and universal values, as expressed in a post on X.
He highlighted the dramatic situation in Gaza, asserting that the Israeli government's decision would only exacerbate the crisis. Costa reiterated that the two-state solution remains the only sustainable, long-term solution for peace and security in Israel and the region.
