Ramallah: President Mahmoud Abbas received a delegation of sheikhs and community leaders from Bir Al-Saba on Thursday at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah. The meeting marked a significant occasion where the delegation extended their congratulations to President Abbas on the successful conclusion of the Eighth Conference of Fatah, highlighting his unanimous re-election as the movement's leader and the election of the Central Committee and Revolutionary Council.
According to Palestine news and Information Agency, members of the delegation praised the conference as a testament to the Palestinian people's commitment to democracy despite ongoing political and security challenges. They emphasized that the conference demonstrated a steadfast dedication to freedom, independence, and democratic practices even under exceptional circumstances.
During the meeting, President Abbas welcomed the delegation from the Naqab region, underscoring the importance of reinforcing fraternal ties among Palestinians both within and outside Palestine. He reiterated the Palestinian leadership's commitment to achieving a just and comprehensive peace. Despite the challenging conditions faced by Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem, Abbas emphasized the goal of establishing an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital on the 1967 borders, based on international legitimacy.
