Ramallah: President Mahmoud Abbas welcomed the Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese's official recognition of the independent and sovereign State of Palestine, recognizing the aspirations of the Palestinian people for their own state.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, President Abbas remarked that Australia's recognition, alongside similar actions by Britain and Canada, is part of coordinated international efforts aimed at creating a conducive environment for the implementation of the two-state solution.
President Abbas emphasized that this recognition is a significant and necessary step towards achieving a just and lasting peace in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions. He highlighted that Australia's acknowledgment of the Palestinian people's right to self-determination, freedom, and independence is crucial for paving the way towards the two-state solution, enabling the State of Palestine to coexist with the State of Israel in security, peace, and good neighborliness.
Furthermore, President Abbas outlined the immediate priorities, which include a ceasefire, the entry of aid, the release of all hostages and prisoners, the full Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, the State of Palestine assuming its full responsibilities, the commencement of recovery and reconstruction, and an end to settlement activity and settler terrorism.
He reiterated the commitments and reforms undertaken by the State of Palestine, as mentioned in the official letter he recently sent to the Australian Prime Minister.
