Ramallah: President Mahmoud Abbas has called for a decisive reaction from the U.S. administration and the international community following recent Israeli government decisions concerning the West Bank. He argues that these decisions undermine international law, weaken Palestinian state institutions, and contradict efforts towards achieving peace and the two-state solution.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, President Abbas emphasized the importance of ensuring the continued delivery of government services to the Gaza Strip. This is being managed through effective coordination between Palestinian government institutions and the Palestinian Committee for Gaza Strip Administration during the transitional phase.
President Abbas expressed gratitude for Norway's principled stance, including its recognition of the State of Palestine and support for peace efforts since the Oslo Accords of 1993. Norway has played a significant role in leading the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee (AHLC) and providing assistance to build Palestinian state institutions.
Discussions with the Prime Minister included recent developments in Palestine, the region, and ways to enhance bilateral relations. President Abbas reviewed Israeli government actions in the West Bank that aim to annex Palestinian lands, expand settlements, target Hebron and the Ibrahimi Mosque, and withhold Palestinian funds exceeding four billion dollars.
He emphasized that these violations require a decisive response as they violate international law and weaken Palestinian institutions. President Abbas briefed the Prime Minister on implementing President Trump's plan and UN Security Council Resolution 2803 to stabilize the ceasefire and aid in Gaza's recovery.
The President highlighted the ongoing coordination to deliver services in Gaza while maintaining integration between institutions in the West Bank and Gaza. He welcomed the operation of the Rafah crossing by Palestinian Authority staff and European observers.
President Abbas stressed that all parties must adhere to the agreed provisions, including the handover of Hamas weapons and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza. He reaffirmed Gaza's integral role in the State of Palestine and rejected any legal or systemic duality between the West Bank and Gaza.
In conclusion, President Abbas reiterated the commitment to working with Norway and partners to implement the New York Declaration's outcomes. The goal is to achieve peace based on international resolutions, ending the occupation, and establishing a sovereign State of Palestine alongside Israel in peace and security.
