President Abbas Receives ICRC’s President in Ramallah

Ramallah: President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas received today President of the International Committee of the Red Cross Mirjana Spoljaric at the presidential headquarters in the city of Ramallah, along with the President of the Red Crescent Society Younis Al-Khatib.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, President Abbas expressed gratitude to Spoljaric for her recent visit to the Gaza Strip, where she assessed the humanitarian conditions amidst the ongoing conflict affecting the Palestinian people. He emphasized the critical need for the Red Cross to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip without any hindrances.

President Abbas acknowledged the Red Cross's efforts in monitoring the conditions of detainees in Israeli prisons and called for adherence to the Fourth Geneva Convention by the occupation authorities. He highlighted the collaboration between the Red Cross and the Red Crescent and commended the Red Cross's support for the Palestinian Red Crescent and hospitals in Gaza that are experiencing a critical shortage of medical supplies.

Furthermore, President Abbas underscored the significance of the International Red Cross's involvement in an upcoming conference organized by Switzerland next March. The conference, which will be attended by the states that are signatories to the Geneva Conventions, aims to address the protection of civilians and the ongoing Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories.
