President Abbas Meets Norway’s King Harald V in Oslo

Oslo: President Mahmoud Abbas met with King Harald V of Norway at the Royal Palace in Oslo to discuss strengthening bilateral relations and address pressing regional issues.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, President Abbas conveyed his gratitude to King Harald V for Norway's steadfast support of the Palestinian cause, including its formal recognition of Palestine as a state, effective May 28, 2024. He also acknowledged Norway's contributions to the Palestinian budget and its humanitarian and development assistance.

The leaders explored ways to enhance historic ties to benefit both peoples and discussed regional and international concerns. President Abbas provided an update on the dire situation in the Palestinian Territory, emphasizing the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip. He highlighted the ongoing challenges posed by Israel's policies, which he described as genocidal aggression, blockade, and measures that threaten the two-state solution.

The meeting included PLO Executive Committee Member Ziad Abu Amr, Presidential Diplomatic Adviser Majdi al-Khalidi, and the Palestinian Ambassador to Norway, Marie Antoinette Sedin.

President Abbas's two-day official visit to Oslo, which began on Tuesday evening, aims to bolster friendship and cooperation between Palestine and Norway while addressing the latest developments in the region.
