NEW YORK: President Mahmoud Abbas met on Monday with the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) Karim Khan, on the sidelines of his participation in the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, in New York. During the meeting, President reviewed the overall developments on the Palestinian scene, in light of the ongoing aggression of the Israeli occupation and its crimes of genocide and ethnic cleansing, which are being committed against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip. The president also addressed Israeli forces' and colonists' violations in the West Bank, including Jerusalem. President Abbas demanded to expedite investigations into Israeli war crimes committed during the aggression on the Gaza Strip, as well as into colonial terrorism in the West Bank, violations committed against detainees, and other crimes committed by the occupation in the occupied Palestinian Territory. The President stressed that impunity means encouraging the Israeli occupation to continue committ ing its crimes against the Palestinian people who have suffered 76 years of injustice, oppression, apartheid and ethnic cleansing. The President emphasized the significance of the advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice last July, which affirmed the illegality of the Israeli occupation of Palestinian Territory. President Abbas stressed the need for action by the international community and the legal organizations of the United Nations to oblige Israel, the occupying power, to implement these resolutions, in addition to all the provisional measures ruled by the Court which demand an end to the Israeli military offensive in the Palestinian Territory. The president affirmed that the State of Palestine will continue to seek full membership in the United Nations, and to obtain further recognitions of the State of Palestine.
