Ramallah: President Mahmoud Abbas engaged in discussions with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on the latest developments concerning the Palestinian arena. The dialogue, conducted via phone, also covered several regional and international issues deemed of mutual interest to both nations.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency, President Abbas expressed his appreciation for Indonesia's unwavering support for the Palestinian people. He commended Indonesia's consistent positions in backing the Palestinian cause and rights. During the call, President Abbas provided an update on the current situation, highlighting the dangers posed by ongoing Israeli violations against the holy sites in Jerusalem, especially the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound. He emphasized the significance of maintaining the historical and legal status of these sacred sites and warned against the continuing aggression and blockade on the Gaza Strip.
President Abbas discussed the challenges posed by the Israeli occupation, especially in the wake of former President Trump's plan and UN Security Council Resolution 2803 on consolidating the Gaza ceasefire. He pointed out the severe humanitarian conditions faced by Palestinians and called for swift reconstruction of the damages caused by Israel. Furthermore, Abbas addressed the escalation of Israeli settlement activities and efforts to stifle the Palestinian economy by withholding clearance revenues, which have surpassed $5 billion, exacerbating the already challenging conditions in Palestine.
In reaffirming his commitment to progress, President Abbas discussed the comprehensive national reform program and the strengthening of the democratic process. He highlighted achievements in trade union, local council, and Fatah movement elections, noting that parliamentary elections are set for November, followed by presidential elections next year. He also acknowledged Indonesia's role in supporting the State of Palestine and defending its rights in line with UN resolutions and international law.
In response, President Subianto reiterated Indonesia's steadfast support for the Palestinian people's rights and their cause. He emphasized Indonesia's backing of efforts to implement the two-state solution and achieve a just peace in accordance with UN resolutions and international law.
