Post: President Abbas Commends Greece’s Support for Palestine in Call with Prime Minister Mitsotakis

Ramallah: The President of the State of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, received a telephone call on Friday night from the Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis. During the call, President Abbas expressed his deep gratitude for Greece's steadfast political positions in support of the Palestinian cause and its continuous humanitarian assistance, especially in light of the catastrophic humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, President Abbas praised Greece's firm positions and the historic ties of friendship between Greece and Palestine. He affirmed joint efforts to protect churches and the Christian presence in Jerusalem and the Holy Land of Palestine. The President also appreciated Greece's support for the two-state solution in line with international law and noted that these positions align with those of the European Union.

President Abbas warned against the Israeli government's decision to reoccupy the Gaza Strip and displace its population, calling it a new crime. He confirmed ongoing political action at all levels, including approaching international bodies like the UN Security Council and the European Union, to rally against these actions.

The President emphasized the need for Palestine to fully assume its responsibilities in the Gaza Strip, calling for a ceasefire, the release of hostages and detainees, and the entry of humanitarian aid. He stressed the need to stop Israel's unilateral actions and advocated for the release of Palestinian tax revenues withheld by Israel.

Furthermore, President Abbas reiterated the commitment to reform programs, completion of state institutions, and the progression toward general elections. He urged countries that have not recognized the State of Palestine to do so, highlighting efforts to advance the two-state solution at the upcoming international peace conference in New York.
