Ramallah: President Mahmoud Abbas reached out to Tunisian director Kaouther Ben Hania and Palestinian director Annemarie Jacir, acknowledging their contributions to highlighting Palestinian stories through cinema.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, President Abbas expressed his appreciation for Ben Hania's film "The Voice of Hind Rajab," which won the Silver Lion Award at the Venice Film Festival. The film, which has drawn international attention and support, tells the story of Hind Rajab, a slain Palestinian child. It is set to participate in numerous festivals worldwide, further amplifying its message.
President Abbas also lauded Jacir for her work in illuminating the Palestinian cause, particularly her latest film, "Palestine 36." This film explores the Palestinian revolution during the British Mandate period, continuing Jacir's tradition of using cinema to reflect on Palestinian history and struggles.
In his calls, President Abbas emphasized the importance of cinema, theater, and culture in advocating for just causes and promoting the Palestinian narrative. He highlighted their role in garnering support and advocacy for the Palestinian cause and the pursuit of freedom and independence.
