Ramallah: President Mahmoud Abbas cast his vote on Saturday morning in the elections for the movement's Central Committee and Revolutionary Council at the Ahmad Shuqairi Hall in the presidential headquarters in Ramallah. The President emphasized the importance of ensuring the success of the democratic process in a way that reflects the unity of the movement and its commitment to renewing its leadership institutions.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, President Abbas stressed that holding elections for the Central Committee and Revolutionary Council of Fatah reflects a firm commitment to strengthening the democratic process. He stated, "This year is the year of democracy. We held an important conference for the Fatah youth, followed by the holding of local elections last April."
Further elaborating on the democratic initiatives, Abbas mentioned that the Eighth Conference of Fatah signifies preparations for the upcoming elections of the National Council in November, in addition to the general and presidential elections. He highlighted the importance of drafting the constitution, the political parties law, and the general elections law as part of the democratic advancement.
The voting process for the Central Committee and Revolutionary Council commenced at 10:00 a.m. and is scheduled to continue until 4:00 p.m. This will be followed immediately by vote counting and the announcement of results, culminating in the conference's final statement.
The Eighth General Conference of Fatah is set to conclude on Saturday with the announcement of final election results. The event spans two days of sessions held in Ramallah, Gaza, Cairo, and Beirut, with around 2,580 movement members participating.
