Beirut: President Mahmoud Abbas met with the Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, Nabih Berri, at the Second Presidency headquarters in Ayn al-Tineh, Beirut.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, President Abbas expressed his appreciation for Lebanon's support for the Palestinian cause in international forums. He emphasized Lebanon's backing of the Palestinian right to self-determination, the right of return, and the two-state solution as crucial for ending Palestinian suffering and achieving regional stability.
Abbas reaffirmed the strong historical ties between Palestine and Lebanon, expressing his commitment to strengthening these relations for mutual benefit. He noted that Palestinians in Lebanon are temporary guests until they return to their homeland and stressed Palestine's respect for Lebanon's unity and sovereignty. Abbas also mentioned that refugee camps in Lebanon remain under Lebanese state and military sovereignty.
During the meeting, Abbas briefed Berri on the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, highlighting the ongoing Israeli actions, including the killing of civilians and the siege in Gaza. He also noted the Israeli aggression and settlement expansion in the West Bank, including Jerusalem.
Abbas commended Lebanon for its efforts to maintain national security and sovereignty. The two leaders agreed to form a joint committee to enhance bilateral relations and improve the conditions of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon.
